What is a Tier IV Data Center?
Uptime Institute, (www.uptimeinstitute.com) is an unbiased advisory organization focused on improving the performance, efficiency, and reliability of business-critical infrastructure through innovation, collaboration, and independent performance certifications. Uptime Institute has awarded over 2500 Tier Certifications in more than 110 countries and trained over five-thousand professionals with their Accredited Tier educational courses.
Uptime Institute created a 4 Tier standardized ranking system that indicates the reliability of data center infrastructure. This classification ranks facilities from I to IV, with I being the lowest and IV being the highest level of reliability.
WHY IS TIER IV NEEDED?
In today’s global economy, data is the new currency of the world. Having uninterrupted access to data is mission critical and the life-blood of most major businesses. Recent events have proven that traditional Tier III and below data centers lacking fully redundant systems are insufficient. Even major data center operators such as Amazon and Alibaba have suffered infrastructure outages costing their customers millions of dollars (see attached exhibits).
